Description

1896-S Eagle, MS62
Green Label Holder

1896-S $10 MS62 PCGS. The mintage of this issue is significantly higher than for the 1894-S and 1895-S eagles, and the 1896-S is only moderately scarce in MS62. It is rare in MS63, and very rare finer; just one coin has been certified in MS64, MS65, and MS66 at PCGS. The finest known is the Clapp-Eliasberg MS68 graded by NGC. This piece, housed in a green label holder, is satiny with original reddish-gold coloration and strong detail. A couple of tiny ticks on Liberty's chin are all that are worthy of mention.
