Description

1897 Ten Dollar, MS65
Lustrous With Rich Mint Frost

1897 $10 MS65 PCGS. Remarkably few coins cross the threshold into the Gem level for this conditionally challenged Philadelphia eagle. The dies were overused to produce more than 1 million pieces, and the issue is plagued by bagmarks and die cracks. Many survivors come by way of European hoards, and they were carelessly handled. This lustrous exception has its share of die cracks, but relatively few marks of consequence. A sharp strike accompanies the frosty eye appeal. Population: 11 in 65 (1 in 65+), 3 finer (12/15).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 267D, PCGS# 8737, Greysheet# 9418)
