    Beautiful 1898-S Eagle, MS66 PCGS

1898-S $10 MS66 PCGS. Despite a not insignificant mintage of 473,600 pieces, the 1898-S is a difficult coin to locate in the finer Mint State grades. Indeed, in Premium Gem, the grade of the piece offered in the current lot, a mere three coins have been certified by PCGS and NGC combined, with none graded finer (10/05). According to our records, only two better-grade Uncirculated examples (an MS65 and an MS66) have appeared at auction over the past couple of decades.
The present specimen yields variegated apricot-gold and mint-green patina over radiantly lustrous surfaces. The design features are well executed, including nearly full definition in the hair over Liberty's ear. A few minor contact marks scattered about are not worthy of individual mention. Population: 2 in 66, 0 finer (10/05).(#8741) (Registry values: N1)

    Weight: 16.72 grams
