Description

1899 Ten Dollar, MS66
Conditionally Scarce

1899 $10 MS66 NGC. The 1899 eagle is a high-mintage issue, with more than 1.26 million pieces produced. Several thousand coins have been certified through the MS64 level. The numbers drop precipitously in MS65, however, and Premium Gems such as this one are extremely scarce. The reddish-gold mint luster has just a tinge of greenish patina, and the surfaces are free from any mentionable abrasions except for the occasional luster break. The strike is razor-sharp, with a single dark fleck on the reverse between TEN and D. Census: 20 in 66, 4 finer (2/19).
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2011), lot 6694, where it sold for $7,475.
