Description

Magnificent 1899 Eagle, MS66
Tied for Finest Graded at PCGS

1899 $10 MS66 PCGS. CAC. The 1899 eagle is a high-mintage issue, produced to the extent of more than 1.26 million pieces. Garrett and Guth, in their gold Encyclopedia, write that the 1899 is a "super-common date that can be found quite easily in all Mint State grades up through MS-64. Gem examples are 'money coins,' (i.e., with enough money, one can always find an example of this date." Despite the foregoing, the MS66 grade of the present piece makes it a conditionally very rare coin, one of only five so graded at PCGS, with none finer (8/10). This orange-gold Premium Gem is fully struck throughout, a coin drenched in mint luster and radiating sensational eye appeal. The quality appears close to the Superb Gem level, save for a couple of insignificant ticks. A magnificent type coin.(Registry values: N1)
