Description
Conditionally Elusive 1901-O Eagle, MS63
1901-O $10 MS63 NGC. As noted by Winter in the second edition of his Gold Coins of the New Orleans Mint, 1839-1909 (2006), this later gold eagle issue has become relatively available in grade levels up to and including MS62. Select Mint State specimens, however, like the currently offered example, remain conditionally scarce. This piece has a richly satiny appearance, with appealing green-gold coloration and a very clean obverse. The reverse shows a handful of minor field marks that limit the grade. Census: 22 in 63, 6 finer (8/08). (Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 267R, PCGS# 8748, GSID# 9530)
