Description

Gorgeous, Richly Toned Gem 1901-S Eagle

1901-S $10 MS65 PCGS. The gold Eagle, unlike the Double Eagle, was seldom use to store value, resulting in a remarkably low survival rate of high grade collector issues throughout much of the series. The 1901-S is by far the most common date in Gem and finer condition, with the Philadelphia issue of the year a distant second, and combined they account for 80% of certified Gem Liberty Eagles, making these two issues the nearly ubiquitous choice of Gem type collectors. This a clean and attractive example of the series, with boldly struck devices, smooth, glossy fields, and only trivial surface abrasions throughout. Intense, blazing luster enhances the deep red-orange and magenta toning that drapes the surfaces, and thin slices of silvery powder blue frame sections of the devices.(#8749) (Registry values: N2998)
