1907-S Eagle, Rare MS64+
Among the Top Five Known

1907-S $10 MS64+ PCGS. CAC. While some say the 1905-S eagle is the scarcest Liberty Head ten of the 20th century, the 1907-S has an equally valid claim. It is virtually unavailable in Gem or finer grades, and borderline Gems are similarly rare. Vibrant wheat-gold surfaces set this conditionally rare example apart from other near-Gem examples. The fields exude frosted mint luster, while sharply struck motifs lack full details only on a few of the hair curls.

Struck during the transitional year for gold coinage designs, few Liberty Head tens were saved numismatically and there were no substantial foreign holdings of the 1907-S. As a result, the present coin is the sole Plus-graded MS64 at PCGS, and also the sole near-Gem to earn CAC endorsement. It is among the top five 1907-S eagles at either service, and quite possibly the finest example available to collectors for the foreseeable future. Population: 10 in 64 (1 in 64+), 2 finer. CAC: 1 in 64, 0 finer (1/18).(Registry values: N2998)
