    1872-CC Ten Dollar, VF25
    Rarely Seen Problem-Free

1872-CC $10 VF25 PCGS. Variety 1-A. The Nevada branch mint cut ten dollar gold coin output by nearly half from 1871 to 1872. Only 4,600 eagles were manufactured that year. Fewer than 100 pieces are believed to have survived the ravages of time, and many of them are seen with detracting issues that prohibit a numerical assessment. This is a problem-free example of Variety 1-A, the far-rarer of two die pairs. The mintmark is even, and the second vertical stripe is bold. Each side displays deep orange-gold tones and smooth wear suggestive of extensive time spent in Western circulation. The surfaces radiate an amazing, attractive hue given the numeric grade. Housed in a green label holder.
