Description

1839-C Five Dollar, AU53

1839-C $5 AU53 PCGS. Variety 1. The 1839-C is interesting for several reasons. It is the only Charlotte Liberty issue with an obverse mintmark. It is also the only date of the series with the initial sleepy-eyed portrait of Liberty. Finally, it has a low mintage of 17,205 pieces. This representative is well defined aside from softness on the left-side stars. The sun-gold surfaces are inoffensively abraded and only mildly bright. Population: 4 in 53, 18 finer (1/15).(Registry values: P5)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25S8, PCGS# 8192, Greysheet# 8955)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
