Description
1839-D Liberty Half Eagle, MS60
Rare Mint State Example
Near the Condition Census
1839-D $5 MS60 PCGS. Winter 2-A. This is the usually seen
variety of the 1839-D Liberty half eagle, showing the mintmark
tilted left and positioned right over the 3 in the date. It
represents a majority of the Uncirculated examples of the date
known. The census of these pieces compiled in 2022 ranked this coin
12th finest, and a coin with no previous provenance known. It shows
sharp definition throughout the design elements, with satiny luster
and uniform straw-gold patina. Scattered small abrasions define the
grade, but the overall eye appeal is excellent for the MS60 level.
A couple small marks on Liberty's jaw provide a reliable pedigree
marker. Population: 4 in 60, 5 finer (11/24).(Registry values: P4)From The KRGJ Collection.
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25S9, PCGS# 8193, Greysheet# 8956)
