Scarce 1840-C Five Dollar, AU53

1840-C $5 AU53 PCGS. Variety 1 (formerly Variety 2-B). The right edge of the C mintmark is over the left edge of the E in FIVE while its left edge is over the V. Very scarce early Charlotte five that is most often available in VF or low-end XF condition, with pieces grading as high as AU being quite rare. This example is softly struck in areas, but there is little actual wear present. Scattered abrasions that are typical for this issue are present on both sides.(Registry values: P5)
