Description

1840-C Half Eagle, AU55
Wonderful White-Gold Survivor

1840-C $5 AU55 NGC. Winter-1. White-gold hues coat medium abrasions and moderate weakness on the central details. All coins of this issue have an unusually broad rim, a trait referred to as "broad mill" and is shared with some of the Philadelphia coins of this year. This date has a slightly lower survival rate than the surrounding issues and is very rare in Mint State, making a Choice AU example an excellent candidate for a specialist's set piece.(Registry values: P5)
