Lustrous 1840-C Half Eagle, AU55

1840-C $5 AU55 PCGS. Variety 2 with the point of the arrow feather over the inner curve of the mintmark. An exceptional example for the grade, this Choice AU piece has brilliant light yellow surfaces with few abrasions on either side. The lower obverse border has some stray marks extending up from the dentils, reminiscent of digits erroneously punched into the die. Population: 7 in 55, 4 finer (2/09).(Registry values: P5)
