Description

1840-C Half Eagle, XF45
Old Green Holder, CAC

1840-C $5 XF45 PCGS. CAC. Winter-2. An early die state, before a heavy radial crack develops from the rim to the eagle's left (facing) wingtip. Old-time olive-gold patina characterizes each side, and wear is light, with strong detail throughout Liberty's hair curls and even on the eagle's talons. Scattered surface chatter accompanies the grade, while a dirt-filled planchet flaw on Liberty's cheek will serve as a pedigree marker. Housed in a Generation 3.0 old green label holder. Population: 23 in 45, 56 finer. CAC: 4 in 45, 12 finer (8/25).(Registry values: P5)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25SD, PCGS# 8196, Greysheet# 8957)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
