Scarce Small D Variety

1840-D $5 Small D AU55 NGC. Variety 4-C. The Small D variety is very scarce relative to the 1840-D Tall D (Variety 3-B), which in turn is very scarce relative to the 1840 Philadelphia issue. The present Small D example is well struck for a Dahlonega product. The green-gold surfaces exhibit substantial bright luster. A hair-thin diagonal mark crosses the portrait.
