Bright 1840-D Five Dollar, XF40 1840-D $5 Small D XF40 NGC. Variety 4-C. The Small Mintmark variety with diagnostic die crack extending above and below the D. The surfaces on both sides are bright yellow-gold, and reveal the normal amount of contact marks scattered about. Generally well defined, except for some weakness on the eagle's plumage. Rare any finer.
