Description
1840-D $5 Tall D Fine 12 PCGS. Variety 3-B. This variety is easily distinguished because of the large mintmark. Delightful pumpkin-orange patina drapes both sides, which show no prominent marks. Liberty's cheek is soft, but the eagle is actually well-defined. A charming example of this scarce issue. Only 22,896 pieces were struck of both mintmark varieties.
