Mint State 1840 Half Eagle

1840 MS 61 PCGS. Narrow Mill. While not a rare coin in the absolute sense, with lower grade specimens always being available, in mint condition the 1840 is a significant coin and well worth the attention of specialists. The strike on this piece is noteworthy with all the details fully brought up. The fields show die striations which have in turn imparted a bright semi-prooflikeness to each side. There are a number of small abrasions in the fields but none deserve individual mention, a small alloy spot is noted at 5 o'clock on the obverse. Population: 1 in 61, only 3 finer (1/97).
