1840-O $5 Narrow Mill AU55 PCGS. Variety 2. Ex: Fairmont Collection. Large O. Our auction archives indicate that about 85% of 1840-O half eagles are Variety 1, the small mintmark variety with the mintmark above the V in FIVE. The present lot is the rarer Variety 2 with a large mintmark centered over the space between the VE in FIVE. The green-gold surfaces display ample luster, along with the expected number of small to large field marks.
