Description
Rare Near-Mint 1840-O 'Narrow Mill' Five
1840-O $5 Narrow Mill AU58 NGC. Breen-6530, Medium Oval O. 21.65 mm. The Narrow Mill 1840-O is an important condition rarity in the higher AU grades, despite the mintage of 40,120 pieces. This example is lightly struck through the center, as frequently seen, with weakness on the forelock, the hair over Liberty's ear, and the eagle's neck and leg-feathers. Much luster radiates from the medium-gold surfaces, which reveal a few light scrapes on Liberty's jawline only under a loupe. Census: 22 in 58, 14 finer (5/06).(Registry values: P6)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25SK, PCGS# 8200, Greysheet# 8960)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
