Lustrous 1841-D Small D Half Eagle AU58

1841-D $5 Small D AU58 PCGS. Variety 5-D. This reverse is quickly identifiable by an unusual, small hollow round spot at the top of the second vertical shield stripe. The other reverse found on 1841-D Half Eagles employs a reverse of 1840 with a medium mintmark. It is considerably scarcer than the small mintmark variety. This lustrous example is sharply impressed in all areas and has a trace of reddish patina over green-gold surfaces. Population: 2 in 58, 8 finer (7/04).(#8204) (Registry values: P3)
