Choice AU 1842 Small Letters Five

1842 $5 Small Letters AU55 NGC. In 1842, Chief Engraver Christian Gobrecht tinkered with his own 1840 creation. The master reverse die was re-engraved, making the letters and eagle noticeably larger. The present coin was struck using an obsolete Small Letters die, and is an attractive example with a bold peripheral strike and only unimportant marks.(Registry values: P7)
