1842-C $5 Large Date XF45 NGC. CAC. Winter-1. This Charlotte Mint Liberty half eagle displays original olive-gold patina with delightful highlights of orange that flash under rotation. Abrasions are consistent with the XF45 grade, but blending from light circulation renders them mostly inoffensive. The design emblems show good detail for the grade, with the stars, dentils, and eagle all adding to the wonderful eye appeal. The low mintage of 23,589 pieces accounts for just 14 half eagles in Mint State at NGC, keeping highly-graded circulated pieces keenly sought after (9/25).
