Description
Singular Gem 1843 Half Eagle
1843 $5 MS65 NGC. The sole finest representative of this date graded by either NGC or PCGS (2/10), and as such a tremendously important coin to the collector assembling a top-flight cabinet of Liberty half eagles. The strike is perhaps the most remarkable facet of this Gem, though the shining, almost flashy luster is of similar importance. A number of small planchet flaws are scattered in the fields, but post-striking flaws are few. Only careful inspection turns up the tiny diagonal abrasion on the cheek, as well as a handful of wispy marks nearby, which account for the final grade.(Registry values: P5)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25T2, PCGS# 8213, GSID# 8888)
