1843-D $5 Medium D AU50 NGC. Variety 10-G. Doug Winter writes that the 1843-D half eagle's "availability and its early date of issue make it a popular type coin." This AU example is especially pleasing for the collector who appreciates old-time patina. Deep amber-gold "crust" characterizes each side, with lilac and bluish tints in the peripheries.
