    Description

    Rare 1843-D Small D Half Eagle MS61

1843-D $5 Small D MS61 PCGS. Variety 10-G. While the '43-D is the most frequently encountered Dahlonega Half Eagle from the 1840s, the small mintmark variant is far scarcer than the normal mintmark variety, and as such should command a significant premium because of its rarity and importance. The striking details are completely brought up in all areas, including the peripheral stars, Liberty's hair around the face, and the feathers on the eagle's left (facing) leg. The fields are bright and have a semi-reflective glint and ruddy coloration is scattered over each side. A solid Condition Census Small D 1843-D. Population: 1 in 61 (others may have been certified under the initial PCGS number), 0 finer (11/04).(#98215) (Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 25T4, PCGS# 98215)
