1845-D $5 AU50 PCGS. Variety 12-I. The 1845-D half eagle is a reasonably available date, from a mintage of 90,629 pieces. The best estimate of the surviving population is 225-250 examples, with about 50 specimens in AU. The present coin features remarkable striking detail for a D-mint coin. The surfaces exhibit no distracting marks, with only minimal wear, suggestive of a higher grade. Population: 30 in 50, 91 finer (2/10).
