Description

1845-D Five Dollar, AU53
Original Branch Mint Specimen

1845-D $5 AU53 PCGS. Winter 13-H. The 1845-D half eagle, with a mintage of 90,629 coins, is one of the more plentiful Dahlonega issues overall, and is widely popular among collectors seeking a single coin from this branch mint. This AU53 example displays deep, original orange-gold patina with soft olive undertones. The well-struck devices retain most of the original mint luster, much of it accented in lilac and peach. The overall eye appeal is quite strong, and light, grade-consistent abrasions that are not bothersome. AU-level pieces are highly sought after as PCGS shows only 25 examples in Mint State (10/25).
