Description

Sharply Struck AU55+ 1845-D Half Eagle

1845-D $5 AU55+ NGC. Variety 12-I. The more common die pair, with the date far to the left. Of the two gold-only mints, Charlotte was out-of-commission due to a fire, leaving Dahlonega to handle official production of Piedmont gold. This sharply struck and minimally worn example has a dappled apricot-gold and orange appearance with scattered light abrasions and softly swirling luster. Great all-around eye appeal. NGC has graded 92 numerically finer examples with an unknown number of resubmissions (2/12).(Registry values: P2)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25TC, PCGS# 8224, Greysheet# 8978)
