Description

Lustrous AU58 1845-D Half Eagle

1845-D $5 AU58 NGC. Variety 12-I. The usually found obverse, with the date further left but not as high as the rare 13-I die, where the top of the 1 nearly touches the bust truncation. This example boasts lovely luster remaining on the greenish-gold surfaces, which are well-struck (but not fully struck) even through the centers. Some of the roughness on the planchet is as made. A nice near-Mint example. Census: 66 in 58, 20 finer (2/10).(Registry values: P2)
