Description
Interesting 1846 Large Date Five, MS62
1846 $5 Large Date MS62 NGC. Another sharp example of the Large Date 1846 half eagle, rare in Mint State. This piece displays pretty yellow-gold patina with good luster and a few stray contact marks and light scrapes that account for the grade. This is one of several examples of the 1846 Large Date in the present sale that feature several different and interesting die states. The present piece shows wispy obverse die cracks through stars 6-11, but there are none of the dramatic die cracks and clash marks on the reverse that later appear on some examples. Another interesting piece for the die state specialist.(Registry values: P5)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28BG, PCGS# 8226, GSID# 8891)
