Description
Appealing 1846-C Half Eagle, AU58
1846-C $5 AU58 NGC. Variety 8-E, the only known dies. Most '46-C survivors grade XF or below. Fewer than 20 high-end AU examples, such as the AU58 presented here, have been certified by NGC and PCGS, and slightly more than 10 finer. This coin displays rich apricot-gold patina with subtle hints of light green. The design elements bear an excellent strike, with only some of the horizontal lines in the shield revealing weakness. The surfaces are relatively clean, exhibiting just a few wispy slide marks. Great overall technical quality and eye appeal.(Registry values: P5)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25TG, PCGS# 8227, Greysheet# 8980)
