Description

1846-D Half Eagle, AU58

1846-D $5 AU58 NGC. Variety 17-I (formerly 16-K). Lemon-gold toning clings to protected areas of this briefly circulated Dahlonega type coin. The fields display marks but none merit singular mention. The strike is above average though the eagle's neck and fletchings show the blending usual for the Southern facility. Census: 12 in 58, 3 finer (12/12).
Ex: Lucy Llewellyn Collection of Southern Gold (Heritage, 3/2010), lot 2283, which realized $6,900.(Registry values: P3)
