Description

1846-D/D Half Eagle, Appealing AU58
Popular, Dramatic Repunched Mintmark

1846-D/D $5 AU58 PCGS. Variety 17-J. Called Low 1, but in reality the entire date is lower than on the Variety 16-J. On the reverse, the first mintmark punch was jammed far too high under the olive branch, with the second punch in the correct position. This is a popular variety due to the dramatic visibility of the repunched D. This is an appealing yellow-gold example showing brilliant luster, a sharp strike, and good eye appeal with trivial contact marks. Population: 12 in 58, 15 finer (11/15).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25TH, PCGS# 8229, Greysheet# 8982)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
