Description
1846-O Half Eagle, Impressive AU55
Overlooked Branch Mint Issue
1846-O $5 AU55 PCGS. CAC. Variety 3. Ex: The Fairmont
Collection. Only a few dozen examples of this undervalued New
Orleans date exist at this Choice About Uncirculated grade, and
some of those lack natural surfaces and color. This is a splendid
orange-gold example, with semireflective fields and a sharper
strike than often seen. The 1846-O mintage (58,000 pieces)
circulated extensively and few examples survive any finer than this
softly lustrous, well-preserved coin. CAC endorsement recognizes
the original surfaces and high quality for the grade. Population:
13 in 55, 22 finer. CAC: 5 in 55, 5 finer (8/23).(Registry values: P6)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25TK, PCGS# 8230, Greysheet# 8983)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
