    1846-O Half Eagle, Bold AU55
    Rare Southern Gold Issue

1846-O $5 AU55 PCGS. Variety 1. The large mintmark is positioned over VE. This Southern gold issue has a mintage of 58,000 coins, of which Doug Winter estimates 75 to 85 pieces survive in all (17 to 19 in AU). The typical 1846-O half eagle is heavily abraded with dull surfaces and subpar eye appeal. This Choice AU coin is exceptional; Marks are minimal and partial luster glows within the recesses. Bright green-gold surfaces showcase razor-sharp devices with full radials on the stars, bold curls, and crisp feathers and olive leaves. Population: 9 in 55, 17 finer (9/15).(Registry values: P6)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25TK, PCGS# 8230)
