Description

1847 Half Eagle, MS63+
Radiant No Motto Type Coin

1847 $5 MS63+ PCGS. CAC. The mintage exceeded 915,000 pieces, making the 1847 Philadelphia five a readily available date for half eagle and type collectors alike. It is surprisingly challenging in Select Uncirculated or finer grades, indicating most of the mintage circulated. This CAC endorsed, semiprooflike orange-gold example features attractive, lightly abraded surfaces and sharply struck motifs. PCGS reports just eight finer examples despite the high mintage. Population: 28 in 63 (4 in 63+), 8 finer. CAC: 8 in 63, 3 finer (9/22).(Registry values: P5)
