Description

Elusive 1847 MS64 Half Eagle

1847 $5 MS64 NGC. With an abundant mintage of nearly one million pieces, the 1847 half eagle is the most common date of the 1840s. Lower level Mint State coins can be located with patient searching, but better-grade examples are elusive. This near-Gem displays partially prooflike fields, and except for softness on portions of the eagle, the design elements are well brought up. Peach-gold surfaces reveal a few minor, grade-defining handling marks. Census: 8 in 64, 0 finer (7/08).
