Description

1847/7 Half Eagle, Bright MS65
Single Finest Known

1847/7 $5 MS65 NGC. Breen-6570. This popular variety is distinguished by recutting at the top of the 7 over what appears to be a smaller 7. While not especially challenging in XF and AU, Mint State pieces are rare. This is the only Gem graded by either of the major certification services. The striking details are complete in all areas, and the fields exhibit a bright, semi-prooflikeness that serves as a reflective background for the otherwise softly frosted devices. The interior portions of each side are bright yellow-gold while surrounded at the margins by deeper orange-gold. An important coin for the collector of No Motto half eagles.
