Description

Mint State 1847-C Half Eagle

1847-C MS 60 NGC. With the highest mintage in the series, the '47-C is one of the most common issues in all grades with an estimated 190-200 pieces believed extant today. However, in Mint State it is really quite scarce with only 7-8 pieces currently known to exist. This is a reasonably well struck coin that has rich green-gold color overall with accents of reddish patina over the highpoints. Each side is rather extensively abraded, as this issue is usually found, with the most noticeable flaw being in the left obverse field out from star 1. Just outside the Condition Census, this piece is perhaps the sixth or seventh finest known.
