1847-D $5 MS61 NGC. Variety 16-M. Faintly prooflike with appealing green-gold color and firmly struck details, even on Liberty's curls. Impressively smooth for the grade, since a shallow strike-through beneath the hair bun is of mint origin. For pedigree purposes, we note a minor retained lamination near the UN in UNITED. Census: 7 in 61, 7 finer (11/07).Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 1/04), lot 9020, which realized $7,475.(Registry values: P2)
