Description
1847-O Half Eagle, AU50
Rare in All Grades
1847-O $5 AU50 NGC. Variety 1. The only known variety. The
1847-O half eagle, from a mintage of 12,000 pieces, is rare in all
grades. The PCGS website indicates that 50 to 60 pieces are known,
and NGC and PCGS have graded fewer than 90 coins in all levels of
preservation, a number of which are likely resubmissions. This AU
offering displays sharply struck design elements, including
Liberty's hair, which is usually found weak, and neither side
reveals the heavy abrasions that are typically seen on this date.
Nice overall eye appeal. Census: 5 in 50, 19 finer (2/14).From The Collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.(Registry values: P8)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25TR, PCGS# 8235, Greysheet# 8987)
