Description

1847-O Half Eagle, AU58
Rarest New Orleans Five Dollar Issue

1847-O $5 AU58 NGC. The 1847-O eagle is the most available No Motto ten dollar issue from New Orleans. It is the opposite story for its half eagle counterpart. The '47-O five is the rarest New Orleans issue of its denomination. The mintage was only 12,000 pieces. At the near-Mint level, the issue is a great rarity. If net graded examples are excluded, Heritage has never auctioned an 1847-O half eagle in a grade finer than AU55, until now. This nicely struck butter-gold representative shows substantial luster, and no abrasions are of singular significance. An important opportunity for the alert specialist. Census: 5 in 58, 2 finer (11/21).
