Prooflike Choice AU 1848-C Half Eagle
1848-C $5 AU55 NGC. Variety 1. Despite the high mintage approaching 65,000 coins, the 1848-C half eagle is much scarcer in Mint State than such a figure suggests. This example displays some prooflike luster under a light layer of field chatter on original greenish-gold surfaces. Some of the planchet roughness appears original to the Mint.
