Description

1848-C Liberty Half Eagle, AU58
Underrated Branch Mint Issue

1848-C $5 AU58 PCGS Secure. Variety 1. The 1848-C Liberty half eagle is much more difficult to locate than its mintage of 64,472 pieces would suggest, and high-grade specimens are very rare. This attractive near-Mint specimen shows just a trace of actual wear, along with a touch of the usual softness on the mintmark and arrow fletchings on the reverse. The lightly abraded orange-gold surfaces retain much original mint luster. Population: 8 in 58, 5 finer (2/17).(Registry values: P4)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25TT, PCGS# 8237, Greysheet# 8988)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
