1848-D Five Dollar, AU50
Conditionally Scarce D-Mint Issue
1848-D $5 AU50 NGC. Winter-20-L. As often seen, this 1848-D
is struck from the late die state with prominent die cracks from A
of STATES to the eagle's beak, resuming beneath the right (facing)
wing through the tips of the top two arrowheads, exiting through
the bottom serif of R in AMERICA to the rim. The strike is above
average for the issue and pleasing orange-gold color displays
deeper orange accents at the margins. Light abrasions, tiny marks,
and circulation wear are consistent for the About Uncirculated
grade. NGC Census (all varieties combined): 16 in 50, 68 finer
(4/25).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25TU, PCGS# 8238, Greysheet# 8989)
