Description

1848-D Five Dollar, AU50
Conditionally Scarce D-Mint Issue

1848-D $5 AU50 NGC. Winter-20-L. As often seen, this 1848-D is struck from the late die state with prominent die cracks from A of STATES to the eagle's beak, resuming beneath the right (facing) wing through the tips of the top two arrowheads, exiting through the bottom serif of R in AMERICA to the rim. The strike is above average for the issue and pleasing orange-gold color displays deeper orange accents at the margins. Light abrasions, tiny marks, and circulation wear are consistent for the About Uncirculated grade. NGC Census (all varieties combined): 16 in 50, 68 finer (4/25).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25TU, PCGS# 8238, Greysheet# 8989)
