Description

Incredible 1849 Half Eagle, MS61

1849 $5 MS61 PCGS. California gold discoveries clearly influenced production of gold coins at the branch mints, and at Philadelphia. Despite a mintage of 133,070 coins, the 1849 half eagles are still very elusive, especially in higher grades. Only a little over 30 Mint State examples have been certified by NGC and PCGS in all Mint State grades. This piece is highly attractive with rich lemon-yellow luster and prooflike fields. Hints of orange toning add to its overall eye appeal. Population: 4 in 61, 2 finer (9/09).(Registry values: P6)
