Description
Choice AU 1849-C Gold Half Eagle
1849-C $5 AU55 NGC. Variety 12-F. This is the usual die state with a die crack at 7 o'clock on the reverse. Probably fewer than 50 examples are known of this issue in AU, in spite of it being considered a "common date." Just a bit softly defined in the centers; the peripheral stars and lettering are fully defined. This original piece has reddish patina surrounding the devices. As one would expect from a coin in this grade the surfaces show numerous small abrasions, but the only one that might be used as a pedigree identifier is located between stars 5 and 6.(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25TW, PCGS# 8241, Greysheet# 8991)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
