Description

Appealing 1849-C Half Eagle AU58

1849-C $5 AU58 NGC. Variety 12-F. Despite being scarce at all grade levels, the 1849-C issue is probably the most relatively available of all Charlotte Mint half eagles from the 1840s. The current near-Mint example is reasonably well struck for a Charlotte Mint product, even if typically weak on some of the design's central highpoints. Some satiny mint luster remains evident, as the piece also displays light wear and a few trivial abrasions. Census: 21 in 58, 30 finer (8/07).(Registry values: P3)
